Lovely DIY Designs: Hair Tutorial

A while ago, my blogging friend, Heather of {just.lovely.things} contacted me about partnering up in a weekly diy project based on our Pinterest inspiration, or, as we like to call it, our Pinspiration.

Heather and I are kind of like internet twins - we both blog and run online shops that specialize in hair accessories.

If you aren't privy to Heather's blog or shop, both named {just.lovely.things.} you are missing out.  Her designs are so cute - seriously, every time I turn my head, I see one...they are popping up all over the internet world. On top of blogging and designing and selling, Heather also does hair and is a photographer.  She is one bizzy, bizzy lady and I wish she lived closer - I could use a full-time stylist and photographer!

Every week either myself or Heather will show all of you lovely readers our latest diy project.  So, without further ado, here is the first {of many} Lovely DIY Designs posts.

A few weeks ago, I saw this hair tutorial on Cup of Jo and loved it, but I wanted to change it up by making the knot fall to the side of my head, rather than across the back, like it does on Cup of Jo.

The vintage vibe to this hairstyle is so pretty.  And after a few practice attempts, this look is easy to achieve.

Starting on the opposite side of your head {the one that you don't want the roll on, twist a piece of hair and pin a few times.  I pinned three time going all the way to almost the middle of my head.

Next, pull your hair to the left {or right, depending on which side the final twist will lay} and secure with an elastic hair band.  Pull the rubber band about a half inch down your pony tail and make a little nest - this is where you will tuck your rolled hair in the next step.

Now, start rolling your hair, while tucking into the little opening you made in the last step.  Try to cover the hair band with a section of your hair while rolling.  This step is hard and might take a few practice runs to achieve the exact look you desire.

Once you have your hair rolled to your liking, begin pinning it in place with several bobby pins.  I have super thick hair and required about 12 pins.  Depending on your hair's thickness/texture you might need less or more.  I finished the look off with two of my Acute Designs vintage hairpins.

I just love the vintage 1930s-40s feel to this do.  I feel like such a lady {which is rare for me}!

Thanks for joining us for the for the first installment of Lovely DIY Designs.  Be sure to check Heather's blog next Wednesday for week number two.
